About the event

Branching Out Series: Roots!
Join Los Angeles consulting arborist, Alison Lancaster, as we kick things off in this inaugural series – where every other month we'll branch out to focus on a different topic related to native tree and garden management. December we’ll take a look at roots. The veins down below that readily soak up winter rains, ultimately making them more adaptable and resilient. Alison will bare root a woody plant for us to demonstrate how roots are structured, where they grow, what root issues develop in nursery containers, and how those issues can be corrected at planting time to ensure your new trees and shrubs have the best chance of establishing good quality root systems. This presentation will allow time for discussion, so feel free to bring photos and root specific questions about your own native trees or shrubs at homes. This class will be held outdoors. Please dress accordingly for the weather. We strongly encourage wearing closed-toe, comfortable walking shoes.
