The nights grow longer, shadows deepen, and Halloween approaches – the hinge, the gateway of the year. From sundown on October 31st to sunrise the next day, the veil between worlds thins, and ghosts, spirits, and otherworldly beings wander freely among us.
As part of Stroud Brewery’s Halloween programme, step onto the Balcony Bar for an evening where story and song intertwine. Oliver Lavery’s spellbinding storytelling, steeped in the oral tradition, brings to life a rich tapestry of folklore from across the globe – from Celtic Britain to Japan and Mexico. Tamsin Quin’s haunting folk songs and live music amplify the tales, creating a magical, immersive soundscape. Expect ghosts and fairies, shapeshifting fox spirits, child-snatching river demons, and perhaps even the Devil Himself – all told through a blend of narrative and song that will send shivers down your spine and leave your imagination alight.
About The Folk Bus:
Oliver Lavery is a folklorist and performance storyteller, and Tamsin Quin is a folk musician and songwriter. Hailing from Wiltshire, a land of standing stones and old gods, together they are The Folk Bus – and also the name of their trusty old Mercedes truck, in which they travel the land gathering and sharing folklore like a flying ship of myth, song, and story. They are currently working to bring a traditional narrowboat, the Folk Boat, to life as a floating storytelling venue and folklore library.
Come hunker down under a tent of story and song at Stroud Brewery’s Balcony Bar, while the spirits wander outside, and About The Folk Bus:experience an evening of myth, music, and magic – the perfect prelude to Halloween.
