11am COMMEMORATIVE WALK from The Prince Albert, Stroud to Selsley Hill with performances and readings.
12.15pm GATHERING at Selsley Hill (the Long Barrow) for more performative history
2pm FILM: DAYS OF HOPE community film about the 1839 Selsley meeting. Showing on the hour at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm
5pm POLITICAL POETRY Presentation about 19th century political poetry plus readings.
7pm MUSIC: STROUD RED BAND
8pm Presentations about the HEAVENS VALLEY and TRINITY ROOMS followed by a PERFORMANCE linking STROUD with the 1839 NEWPORT RISING

1839: JOHN FROST became prospective Chartist parliamentary candidate for Stroud. In May of that year 5,000 people met on SELSLEY HILL in support of the PEOPLE’S CHARTER and the SIX POINTS that would empower the working class.
NOV 1839: The last armed insurrection on British soil took place in Newport. John Frost was leader
NEWPORT has a CHARTIST FESTIVAL every November to commemorate the NEWPORT RISING.
The first Chartist Festival in Stroud in May 2025 will act as a fundraiser for the community purchase of the HEAVENS VALLEY and the TRINITY ROOMS.
The Heavens Valley Community Benefit Society is fundraising to repay the loans used to buy the land, while the Trinity Rooms campaign is raising money to buy their building.
