ABOUT
Join CU Maurice River for August's Tuesday on the Fly outing with Dr. Lenore Tedesco, Executive Director of The Wetlands Institute, to explore Seven Mile Island and the Innovations Lab—a hub for cutting-edge coastal restoration. This 6,000-acre marsh system is one of the most ecologically valuable habitats in Cape May County, supporting diverse bird populations, fish, and other wildlife, while also protecting coastal communities from flooding and erosion.
The work underway at Seven Mile Island is nationally significant. Through innovative use of dredged sediment, researchers and conservationists are helping these tidal wetlands to adapt to accelerating sea-level rise—a growing threat to both habitat and species survival. This project not only enhances coastal resilience but also plays a critical role in preserving the biodiversity and ecological integrity that define our region. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness restoration science in action.
The cost of admission allows you access to the Wetlands Institute all day. After our tour with Dr. Tedesco, feel free to explore the facility at your own pace and take advantage of their daily programming.
BE PREPARED
This tour will take place both indoors and outdoors. Weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable walking shoes are suggested. Having access to sunscreen, insect repellent, snacks, and water is suggested.
