About the event

DRAKEN ASH MOOT - Heathenry and Seidr - Dr Linda Sever (Guest Speaker)
In August Draken Ash Moot will be visited by Dr Linda Sever.

The ancient Anglo-Saxon tribes that settled this land around the 5th century brought with them a powerful magical, spiritual path that they shared with other Northern European countries. Whilst Christianity strove to convert the world, those true to the old gods and goddesses kept this knowledge alive, attested in manuscripts and documents and, later, in the Eddas and sagas. It is the magic of the forest, of the sea, of fire and ice, of the wild spirits of the land which we live on, of the home, hearth and family. The two main forms of Native English magic are those of Seidr and Galdr: Seidr is the native shamanism of Northern Europe; the ability to travel deep into the spirit world, for healing, for power and for knowledge. Complementing Seidr is the practice of Galdr, this is the magic of chanting and creating spells, especially using runes.

This talk will focus on Heathenry and in particular, the practice of Seidr. Learn about travelling the path that our ancestors walked, through the most ancient of forests to the yew grove at the foot of Yggdrasil the world tree. Learn of the nine worlds that make up the cosmology and of those that dwell there and how to traverse their realms. Discover your personal and ancestral power to help you navigate your current life.

Linda Sever is an academic, writer, magical practitioner and documentary maker. She holds a PhD in early Medieval Art History and has spoken at conferences and delivered workshops throughout the UK, Europe and the US. She is an author and editor of “Lancashire’s Sacred Landscape” and ways to connect with the landscape around you.
