Exhibit Reads: The Unwanted

Join us for the next installment of Exhibit Reads, where we will discuss The Unwanted: A Memoir of Childhood by Kien Nguyen. This harrowing and poetic memoir recounts Nguyen’s survival as an Amerasian child left behind in Vietnam after the fall of Saigon in 1975. Through his journey of resilience, we gain insight into the struggles of the Vietnamese displacement. This theme is also explored in the museum’s exhibit Textures of Remembrance: Vietnamese Artists and Writers Reflect on the Vietnamese Diaspora.

This discussion will examine Nguyen’s powerful story alongside the exhibit’s exploration of identity, memory, and displacement in the Vietnamese American experience. Connect with fellow readers as we reflect on this poignant history and its lasting impact.

Light refreshments will be provided. Books are available for purchase in the museum store.
