Sunday, June 8th, 2025. The CBPBA needs sweep boat volunteers for the event. We need all boat types,
including larger cruiser yachts, sportfish, center consoles, performance boats and even Jet Ski’s (4 stroke
models only please). Sweep boat volunteers will secure the swim course that day, it’s a blast, and your fuel
expense could be tax deductible.
The Great Chesapeake Bay Swim (GCBS) is one of America’s premier open water swim challenges. The
annual event is scheduled for the second Sunday of June and consists of a 4.4-mile swim across Maryland’s
Chesapeake Bay. The race starts from the shores of Sandy Point State Park, which is about 5 miles
northeast of Annapolis. The course extends eastward between the two spans of the William Preston Lane,
Jr., Memorial Bridge (U.S. Highway 50) and finishes at a small sandy beach on Kent Island immediately
south of the Bridge eastern-shore causeway adjacent to Libby’s Restaurant. (Hemingway’s)
Net proceeds from the 2025 event will go to March of Dimes, Chesapeake Bay Trust, and the United States
Coast Guard.
The GCBS is limited to only 650 pre-registered entrants to ensure a safe and well-organized event. Typically,
participants start the race in two waves fifteen minutes apart, with the faster swimmers in the second
group. This helps group the swimmers as much as possible during the race to assist CBPBA in monitoring
and aiding the swimmers. This is where you come in. The CBPBA oversees the safety fleet. We are tasked
with creating a barrier to keep the swimmers safe and are there to pull swimmers from the water in the
event of storms or they just can’t make it. If you think that you want to volunteer, please send us an email
