Join us for a special session during the Rhoneymeade Fest Friday Block Party—a rare opportunity to go deep into the sonic and cosmic world of Sun Ra, guided by one of the leading voices on his legacy: Paul Youngquist.
A renowned scholar, writer, and afrofuturist thinker, Paul is the author of A Pure Solar World: Sun Ra and the Birth of Afrofuturism—the definitive text exploring the visionary work of the legendary jazz icon, philosopher, and space traveler. He's spent years immersed in Sun Ra’s music, philosophy, and archives, and now he’s helping to bring the Sun Ra Arkive to light: a sprawling initiative to collect, preserve, and share the boundless art and ideas of Sun Ra and his Arkestra.
In this interactive workshop, Paul will share behind-the-scenes insight into the Arkive project, rare materials, and personal stories from his journey through Ra’s radiant orbit. Whether you're a longtime devotee or curious newcomer, this is your chance to engage with Sun Ra’s legacy in an up-close and inspired way.
This event is totally free and part of our Friday Block Party on Hiester Street, with programming running all day long—music, talks, pop-ups, and more to kick off the Rhoneymeade Fest weekend in style.
