Stanford Philharmonia Classical Showcase

The Chevalier de Saint-Georges (Joseph Bologne), one of France's greatest musicians in the 1780s, conducted the premieres of the six symphonies that Haydn composed for "Le Concert de la Loge Olympique", the grand Parisian orchestra led by the Chevalier. On May 10, SP opens its Spring Concert with the Chevalier's Overture to "The Anonymous Lover" followed by Haydn's Symphony No. 82, "L'Ours" (The Bear), one of the "Paris Symphonies" premiered by the Chevalier with his orchestra in 1786. Concerto Competition winner Charles Li '25 then performs Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 17 in G major, with Beethoven's Symphony No. 2 concluding this Classical Showcase.
