Small Mammal Survey

Saint Paul is home to so much more than rabbits and squirrels! Learn about the lives of urban wildlife and hopefully have the chance to see some of the little critters that usually hide from us.

Join staff from Parks and Recreation's Natural Resources team as we complete our annual survey of small mammals to help us better understand the status and needs of our park.

This program takes place in two sections: A virtual learning component, followed by an in-person survey in the park. The date and time of virtual program is not yet set. All registrants will receive updates and invitations to both the virtual and in-person sections.

The virtual section will happen via Microsoft Teams or pre-recorded video. The in-person section will be the survey at Trout Brook Nature Sanctuary, where participants will go off-trail to gather pre-set Sherman traps, check their contents, and discover what's inside. This is a great opportunity to spend some time outside in a beautiful park, observe our more secretive mammal neighbors, and contribute to scientific study.
