Seconds to Midnight is an immersive rave experience with heavy political overtones. Inspired by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists Doomsday Clock and Dan Savage’s famous quotation on how the LGBTQ+ community made it through the AIDS crisis by dancing every night after burying friends and protesting throughout the day, Seconds to Midnight will face the current socio-political climate while emphasising the importance of allowing yourself to experience the moment despite what is happening to the world around you. Combining the dark reality of the 24 hour news generation with an original electronic dance music (EDM) event, Seconds to Midnight will make participants embrace the uncomfortable while also trying to preserve a sense of unity and perseverance. The EDM style music encourages participants to enjoy and move through the space, while the performance is interrupted by breaking news announcements referencing the events being shown on the multiple television screens. The participants in the rave will have no choice but to face the terrifying reality of the 21st century, or make the choice to turn their backs on the truth and process the image of it looming behind their own reflection in the mirror. With literal seconds to midnight on the Doomsday Clock, humanity has nothing left they can do but enjoy their remaining time and dance together.
