Over the past few weeks, while promoting the Jazz Combo Program, something interesting kept happening.
A lot of guitarists reached out.
Some were excited about playing in a group.
Others said, “I’m not quite there yet… but I’d love a place to really work on jazz guitar.”
And almost every time I casually mentioned the idea of a Jazz Guitar Study Group, the reaction was immediate:
“That’s exactly what I’m looking for.”
So I’m opening it.
Starting Saturday, February 14, I’ll be hosting a biweekly Jazz Guitar Study Group in the St. John’s area.
This isn’t a class, and it’s not a jam.
It’s a guided study space where we slow things down and go deep.
Each session will focus on ONE tune.
We’ll use that tune as a framework to explore comping, harmony, melodic ideas, and practical ways of making jazz language actually stick on the guitar.
No pressure to perform.
No rush to “cover everything.”
Just focused work, shared listening, and accountability.
Details:
• Saturdays (biweekly)
• 2-hour sessions
• One tune per session
• Limited spots (8 players, max 10)
• Drop-ins welcome, with an option for a monthly pass
If you’ve been wanting to dig deeper into jazz guitar but didn’t quite feel ready for a full ensemble setting, this might be the right place.
If you’re interested, comment here or send me a message and I’ll share the details.
