Cartel Madras (AB) are a Canadian Experimental hip-hop duo comprised of sisters Eboshi and Contra. Born in Chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and raised in Calgary, Canada, their music is a cultural syncretism; an experimental heady mix of trap, punk, and house. Known for their explosive and aggressive live performance style, Cartel Madras delivers their music by combining elements of the underground queer and punk scene. Signed to Sub Pop Records after being A&R scouted during their first Sled Island performance, they continue to make radical, racy music and push their art forward by producing and directing their music videos, and putting on unforgettable shows.
Cartel Madras are known for their confrontational, high-energy and sexually demanding style of rap; this rising rap duo flaunts their South Indian identity with authority and expresses their gender and sexuality with a candor that is imperative to why and how Cartel Madras exists.
Described as the lovechild of Doja Cat, Rico Nasty, and Azealia Banks, Montreal’s Fraud Perry (QC) is one to watch. Their output and versatility as an artist are unmatched, as they explore various styles and sub-genres of hip-hop, ranging from smooth boom-bap to soulful samples to explosive autotune trap and industrial experimentation.
