About the event

Developing and Reflecting on Ecological and Environmental Research
A skills-based workshop for Arts and Humanities PGRS on developing, reflecting on and communicating research engaging with ecology.

About this Event

Debate and dialogue about ecology and the environment are often dominated by the sciences and by questions of economy. This workshop will provide development, communications and engagement training for arts and humanities PGRs whose work engages with the environment and ecology to both contribute to existing debates, and shape new ones. We will look at different ways of developing, communicating and reflecting on arts and humanities research that engages with ecological questions and challenges to different audiences and through a range of media. There will also be time for networking and knowledge exchange between participants.

This workshop will be of particular interest to PGRs whose research addresses environmental and ecological concerns, but it is open to all with an interest in this area, or with communicating research more broadly.

The skills training session is organised in collaboration with the St Andrews Botanic Garden, who have increasingly worked with artists and with humanities researchers, artists and curators as part of their work to envision a botanic garden for the future in an age of climate crisis and breakdown.

Due to space constraints, spaces are limited to 30 for this training session.

Accessibility: The Boiler House is a c. 10-minute walk over flat but occasionally uneven terrain from the entrance of the Botanic Garden. It is accessible via a ramp. The Botanic Garden can provide wheelchair assistance. Any participant requiring BSL please let the organisers know asap.

Transport and accommodation: The KE CCE Hub can provide assistance with participant travel to and accommodation in St Andrews as necessary, but these costs need to be signed off by the Hub Lead first: Dr Catherine Spencer (Y2VzMjQgfCBzdC1hbmRyZXdzICEgYWMgISB1aw==). Access queries can also be addressed to Catherine. For more information on travelling to St Andrews, please see the University's travel pages.
