No experience necessary. All levels of bird enthusiasts welcome!
Bring along a pair of binoculars if you have them, but they're not required if you don't.
We'll meet in the lobby of Howe Sound Inn, and from there, we'll break up into four groups to cover different areas of the estuary. The count will take about 4-5 hours, but you don't need to stay for the whole time. We meet at Howe Sound Brewing afterwards for a bite to eat and to chat and compile data from the day.
The Skwelwil'em Squamish Estuary provides nesting sites, feeding and resting areas for migrants, and year-round homes for over 235 species of birds. It not only encompasses a wildlife management area, but also an important bird & biodiversity area.
Habitats include: riparian forest, rivers, sloughs, Carex sedge meadows, tidal mudflats, and open water.
