About the event

Mariachi y Charrería
Summer Reading 2025: Level Up at Your Library
Free Fun for All Ages
Every Wednesday June 18 – August 13
Outdoors on Fountain Plaza

In partnership with Comunidad y Herencia Cultural, Eugene Arte Latino and Solid Strides.

Experience Mexican culture at its finest with passionate music from Mariachi Cuervo, rope tricks with Charro master artist Antonio Huerta and more. Featuring two guest horses from Solid Strides!

The program will share a very representative presentation of the traditions and culture of Mexico and Latin America, such as folkloric dance and rope tricks. Folkloric dance reflects the life of a region or country with its joyful rhythms and colors that distinguish its people.

On the other hand, the Charrería tradition which includes horsemanship, cattle work, and roping represent characteristic activities of cattle ranching, and farming. The tradition has evolved into an important part of the national identity and is recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Roping is an extremely difficult exercise that can be performed both on foot and on horseback, using the lasso to create elegant figures.

The combination of folkloric dance and roping represent the ensemble of the China Poblana and the Charro, both iconic figures of our culture. We dedicate this presentation to all of you with much appreciation, and we hope you enjoy it!

Solid Strides will have one of their beautiful horses present! Solid Strides reduces barriers to entry to horse sports for historically excluded riders by intentionally inviting those facing racial, ethnic, gender, sexuality, and socio-economic barriers into a welcoming and inclusive space where riders can experience a holistic equestrian education. Solid Strides offers a community to welcome, support, and empower equestrians by offering an inclusive space where riders can experience the benefits of a life with horses. We offer Summer Camps, Year-Round Lessons, and Culturally Specific events in partnership with other community organizations.

Join Food for Lane County at 11:30 a.m., immediately following this event on the Fountain Plaza for a free lunch for kids and teens ages 1 - 18. No strings attached! Available while the supply lasts.

Mariachi y Charrería

miércoles, 3 julio, 10:30 a.m.
