Darko Rundek, rođen u Zagrebu, glazbenik je, skladatelj i pjesnik čiji je umjetnički put obilježen inovativnošću i angažiranošću. Nakon studija režije na Akademiji dramske umjetnosti, 1979. godine s basistom Srđanom Sacherom osniva grupu Haustor, koja postaje jedan od najvažnijih bendova novog vala u bivšoj Jugoslaviji. Njihov spoj reggae, rock i etno utjecaja donosi albume poput “Haustor” (1981.), “Treći svijet” (1984.), “Bolero” (1985.) i “Tajni grad” (1988.), s pjesmama koje su ostavile dubok trag u regionalnoj glazbi.
Početkom 1990-ih Rundek se seli u Pariz, gdje nastavlja glazbenu karijeru i djeluje kao skladatelj za kazalište i film. Njegov prvi samostalni album “Apokalipso” iz 1997. godine postaje glazbeni događaj godine u Hrvatskoj, osvojivši pet Porina, uključujući za pjesmu i hit godine, najboljeg muškog izvođača, najbolji videospot i najbolju vokalnu suradnju. Slijede albumi “U širokom svijetu” (2000.), “Ruke” (2002.) – koji 2023. osvaja Porina za najbolji tematsko-povijesni album – te “Mhm A-ha Oh Yeah Da-Da!” (2006.). S projektima Cargo Orkestar i Cargo Trio, Rundek istražuje različite glazbene stilove, a album “Mostovi” iz 2015. godine osvaja Porina za najbolji album alternativne glazbe.
Tijekom karijere Rundek je surađivao s brojnim umjetnicima, uključujući Arsena Dedića, Radu Šerbedžiju, Pips, Chips & Videoclips, Natali Dizdar i Porto Morto. Njegov opus obuhvaća oko 250 glazbenih djela, 13 studijskih i tri live albuma. Osim glazbe, Rundek je aktivan i kao skladatelj za kazalište i film, a 2016. godine s Cargo Orkestrom osvaja Zlatnu Arenu za glazbu u dokumentarcu “Generacija ’68”. Njegova umjetnička svestranost i predanost čine ga jednim od najutjecajnijih glazbenika regije.

Darko Rundek is a musician, composer, and poet whose creative path has been marked by innovation and engagement. After studying directing at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb, in 1979 Rundek and Srđan Sacher (bass guitar) formed Haustor, which would become one of the most important new wave bands in former Yugoslavia. Their combination of reggae, rock, and ethnic music influences in songs that have made big impact on music in the wider region had four albums published: Haustor (1981), Treći svijet (1984), Bolero (1985), and Tajni grad (1988).
Rundek moved to Paris in the early 1990s to pursue a career in composing for theatre and the film industry. His first independent album – the 1997 Apokalipso – turned into a musical event of the year in Croatia, having won five Porin awards: song and hit of the year, best male performer, best music video, and best vocal collaboration. Other albums followed: U širokom svijetu (2000), Ruke (2002), which won the 2023 Porin music award for the best concept album (Remastered 2022), and Mhm A-ha Oh Yeah Da-Da! (2006). Rundek has been exploring different music genres with projects Cargo Orchestra and Cargo Trio. His 2015 album Mostovi won the Porin award in the category of album of alternative music.
Through his entire career, Rundek has worked with many other Croatian artists/musicians, including Arsen Dedić, Rade Šerbedžija, Pips, Chips & Videoclips, Natali Dizdar, Porto Morto. His body of work consists of around 250 pieces of music, 13 studio albums, and three live albums. Rundek has also been writing music for theatre and film, so in 2016 he and his Cargo Orchestra won the Gold Arena at the Pula Film Festival for music in the documentary Generation 68. His musical versatility and dedication make him one of the most influential musicians in the region.
