Join us by the water this Sunday for Celebrate the River Day – a free community event created to shine a light on the River Welland and encourage more people to enjoy its beauty, history, and potential.
Building on our work and participation on the Spalding Reconnected: Historic Town and River project, Transported is excited to be part of the day’s celebrations with a range of creative, family-friendly activities inspired by the river and the town.
🎨 Get Creative with Transported
We’ll be joined by artist Emily Cartwright, who designed the striking illustrations on the way markers along the Spalding Reconnected River Walk Arts Trail, and created a digital sketchcrawl guide. On the day, Emily will be leading in-person sketchcrawl sessions, inviting you to take inspiration from the riverside and enjoy guided drawing in this beautiful setting – no experience necessary!
🖍️ Prefer something more relaxed? Take a seat and colour in one of Emily’s original river-inspired illustrations – the very same designs featured on the way markers throughout the trail. A calm and creative moment for all ages.
🗺️ You’ll also be able to pick up, for the first time, the brand new River Walk Trail Map designed by local studio CLR Studios, as well as a Flyway Trail map leaflet. Don’t miss the Flyway Trail colouring sheets either – designed by Imogen Joyce Designs and inspired by nature and migration.
🌿 Come chat to the Transported team about our living willow artworks along the River Welland and find out what other creative projects we’re working on across the county.
🚣♀️ More River Fun
Alongside our art activities, there’s plenty more happening throughout the day:
-12pm – A flotilla of stand-up paddleboards, boats, and canoes will set off from the Yacht Club, heading to The Moorings for refreshments before returning around 4pm.
-Taster sailing sessions from 12–4pm (book in advance to avoid queues)
-Sailing simulator
-RNLI & RYA stands
-Discounted Yacht Club membership available on the day
-Refreshments available
If you’re taking part in the flotilla, arrive from 10am – and don’t forget your life jacket, it’s essential!
Why Celebrate the River?
Celebrate the River Day has been created to highlight the opportunities the River Welland offers Spalding – for leisure, wellbeing, and connection. With support from organisations including RNLI, Spalding Water Taxi, The Moorings, Sedge Estate Agents, and Transported, we hope this event becomes a regular feature in Spalding’s growing calendar of riverside activities.
