UK GIBA Network+ launch event

Bringing together researchers and stakeholders to advance understanding of the gut-immune-brain axis.

About this Event

The past two decades have witnessed a global explosion of research into the gut-immune-brain axis (GIBA), illuminating its importance for human development, health and longevity. Understanding how the gut connects to and influences the nervous system and the immune system, and vice versa, allows scientists, drug developers and policy makers to develop novel strategies to improve physical, cognitive and mental health across the life-course.

We are establishing a national GIBA Network+ to build a vibrant, diverse, interdisciplinary UK-wide research community to advance the mechanistic understanding of GIBA across the life-course, and its modulation by lifestyle and other factors.

The GIBA Network+ will deliver networking opportunities to facilitate closer collaborative relationships between diverse disciplines, signposting existing UK infrastructure and resources with a strong focus on an inclusive and positive research culture that particularly fosters the development and visibility of early-career researchers.

Researchers and stakeholders from all disciplines and backgrounds are invited to join the launch event for the UK GIBA Network+ at Southampton Harbour Hotel on Monday 22nd September 2025.

The Network will cover up to £300 for UK attendees on reasonable travel expenses and one night accommodation when signing up before Friday 29th August. The Network will also cover reasonable expenses for caring responsibilities. These will be reimbursed in line with UKRI guidance.
