Heritage Open Day 2025: Architecture

In 1867 Mr Charles Hodgson Fowler designed St Peter’s Church in Harton using the French Gothic Style.

This talk will aim to answer the question why? Why in this little rural village of Harton with a few houses, two pubs, one blacksmith, one shop and four farms, most belonging to the Georgian period, did he decide to build a French Gothic style parish church?

Along the way we shall investigate the career of Mr Fowler and the impetus behind the building of this little Victorian church.
