Zydeco is a vibrant, accordion-driven musical genre with roots in the Creole culture of southwest Louisiana. It blends African and Caribbean rhythms with French, blues, and rhythm and blues influences. Often described as a lively, danceable music, it’s known for its unique sound and cultural significance.
Ruben Moreno is a pioneering zydeco innovator from Houston, Texas, whose passion for this vibrant music genre has been a lifelong journey. With deep roots in the tradition, he has learned from many of the greats who paved the way before him. His unique sound blends classic influences with fresh creativity, making him a standout artist in the zydeco scene. At the age of 10, Ruben opened at the Continental Club on rubboard with Leroy Thomas & the Zydeco Roadrunners in Austin, Texas, the Live Music Capitol of the World.
He then took to the road for the next decade playing with Thomas and C.J. Chenier. Moreno subsequently moved to the California Bay Area and was groomed by zydeco stalwart Andre Thierry.
In October 2011, Ruben released his first solo recording, ‘Por Ti Volare’ (For You I Will Fly) produced by Thierry.
Skyrocketing Ruben’s career, the album earned him acclaim from many, including iconic ambassador Buckwheat Zydeco.
