This full-length theatrical production tells the untold story of Richard Wayne Penniman, better known to the world as Little Richard — the boundary-breaking, genre-defining, flamboyantly fearless icon who changed music forever. From his early days in Macon, Georgia, to being discovered by Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and through the tumultuous rise that led him to the top of the charts, Tutti Frutti explores the music industry, racial divides, sexual identity, and the boldness it took to be authentically himself.
Told through the eyes of a skeptical music journalist assigned to profile a “little-known artist” for the inaugural Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, this story unfolds into a whirlwind journey of rhythm, rebellion, and revelation.
