Щастливи сме да обявим второто издание на „Девет слона“ и продължението на един фантастичен разговор между жители и артисти, поети и градинари, експерти и наблюдатели, който ще се проведе точно за десет дни през юли на различни места в града – и за първи път в близки градове и села.
В градове по целия свят – включително в София – ежедневните ни маршрути минават през разкъсани географии: между затворени комплекси и неформални зони, пренебрегнати общности и спекулативни ландшафти, памет и забрава, спешност и застой. Но в тази фрагментирана среда се появяват и поетични, устойчиви, съпротивляващи се пътеки – фантастични маршрути.
Дали фестивал, случайна среща, вслушване или пък просто сянка под дървото, тази година в рамките на второто издание под тема „Фантастични маршрути“ ще представим множество инициативи от полето на изкуствата, пърформънса, литературата и киното, които навигират, мислят и измислят градското пространство във време на бързи и често противоречиви промени.
ПРОГРАМА
Във второто издание на „Девет слона“ не само почвите ще проговорят, но ще имаме възможността да тръгнем на туристическа обиколка вътре в себе си, ще се почерпим с рецепти за бъдеще на ученици по маршрута на трамвай линия №10, ще отидем на кино в село Долна Диканя и ще чуем стиховете на жителите от Бухово. Ние пък от наша страна попитахме какво се случва с меланхолията, когато старите трамвайни мотриси биват подновени и как се измерва щастието в Студентски град.
От 10 до 20 юли фестивалът ще предложи програма от събития от различни сфери на изкуствата, всяко от които ще се вплита в сложния и противоречив пейзаж на съвременния град. Още преди откриването ви каним да заедно с Мария Минкова Да изтъчем Дружба, като вплетем любими истории и спомени в старите цветарници на езерото (5 и 6 юли).
„Девет слона“ ще бъде официално открит на 10 юли в Swimming Pool с изложбата Jump! Don’t Jump с работи на Андреа Попйорданова, Красимир Терзиев, Михаил Новаков, Алцек Мишев, Нора Ампова, Савина Топурска, Сашо Виолетов и Яна Лозева. С нея ще празнуваме десет години вдъхновение покрай най-фантастичния празен басейн на света, който отдавна вече – и особено в дните на фестивала – прелива в целия град.
На 11 юли, веднага в деня след откриването, Sofia Night Performance ще ни пренесе из улиците на квартала под бул. “Дондуков”. Каним ви на една специална петък вечер, в която театър, хореография, изкуство и игра се преплитат в една вълнуваща късна разходка. Тогава ще се срещнете с артистите Ина Добрева, София Димова, Силвия Чернева и Коста Каркашян & Artists на четири не толкова очевидни локации, на всяка една от които ще се потопим в историите, движенията и метаморфози на квартала.
В следващите дни фестивалът се разгръща покрай фантастичните изследвания от Ива Иванова, Ашира Морис, Мария Македонска & Никола Замбели, както и в партньорства с Punta Gallery и Ина Валентинова, сдружение „Градоскоп“, фестивала „На кино, на село“ и др. Представените артистични и трансдисциплинарни практики картографират нови начини на съжителство, възприятие и разказване в града – маршрути, които могат да бъдат невидими, невъзможни, въобразени или все още неоткрити.
„Девет слона“ тази година за първи път става международен, като ви кани на двудневен симпозиум Imagining Cities с повече от 20 участника (18/19 юли), както и представяне на интердисциплинарните инициативи покрай изследователска програма Urban Storytelling School, организирани от Център за социална визия и C*Space Berlin.

We’re delighted to announce the second edition of Nine Elephants and the continuation of a fantastic conversation between residents and artists, poets and gardeners, experts and observers, which will take place over exactly ten days in July at various venues across the city – and for the first time in nearby towns and villages.
In cities around the world – including Sofia – our daily itineraries pass through fractured geographies: between gated communities and informal zones, neglected communities and speculative landscapes, memory and forgetting, urgency and stasis. But in this fragmented environment, poetic, resistant, resisting paths – fantastic routes – also emerge.
Whether a festival, a chance encounter, a listening session or just a shadow under the tree, this year’s second edition under the theme “Fantastic Routes” will present a host of initiatives from the fields of art, performance, literature and film that navigate, think and invent urban space in a time of rapid and often contradictory change.
PROGRAM
In the second edition of Nine Elephants not only the soils will speak, but we will have the opportunity to go on a hiking tour inside ourselves, we will be treated to recipes for the future of schoolchildren on the route of tram line №10, we will go to the cinema in the village of Dolna Dikanya and listen to the poems of the inhabitants of Buhovo. For our part, we asked what happens to the melancholy when old tram cars are renewed and how happiness is measured in Student Town.
From 10 to 20 July, the festival will offer a programme of events from different spheres of art, each of which will be interwoven into the complex and contradictory landscape of the contemporary city. Even before the opening, we invite you to join Maria Minkova in weaving Druzhba together, by weaving favourite stories and memories into the old flower shops on the lake(5 and 6 July).
“Nine Elephants” will be officially opened on July 10 at the Swimming Pool with the exhibition Jump! Don’t Jump with works by Andrea Popjordanova, Krasimir Terziev, Mihail Novakov, Alzek Misheff, Nora Ampova, Savina Topurska, Sasho Violetov and Yana Lozeva. With her, we will celebrate ten years of inspiration alongside the most fantastic empty pool in the world, which has long since – and especially on festival days – overflowed throughout the city.
On 11 July, right after the opening day, Sofia Night Performance will take us through the streets of the neighborhood under Sofia Blvd. “Dondukov. We invite you to a special Friday night where theatre, choreography, art and play intertwine in an exciting late night stroll. Then you’ll meet artists Ina Dobreva, Sofia Dimova, Silvia Cherneva and Kosta Karakashian & Artists at four not-so-obvious locations, each of which will immerse you in the stories, movements and metamorphoses of the neighborhood.
In the following days, the festival unfolds alongside fantastic research by Ivanova, Ashira Morris, Maria Makedonska & Nikola Zambelli, as well as in partnerships with Punta Gallery and Ina Valentinova, the Gradoscope Association, the “At the Cinema, in the Village” festival and more. The presented artistic and transdisciplinary practices map new ways of coexistence, perception and narration in the city – routes that may be invisible, impossible, imagined or as yet undiscovered.
“Nine Elephants is going international for the first time this year, inviting you to a two-day Imagining Cities symposium with more than 20 participants (18/19 July), as well as a presentation of the interdisciplinary initiatives alongside the Urban Storytelling School research programme , organised by the Centre for Social Vision and C*Space Berlin.
