The Murray County Historical Society is rounding off their 2025 Front Porch Music Series on Thursday, August 31st at 7:00 pm. The event will showcase local musician Tony Moger. Moger, who grew up on a farm, found music to be a friend that filled the time and brought joy to his life. In school, he played trumpet, and also dabbled in piano. He didn’t start playing guitar until he was 18. He played through college more seriously. In his 30s, he met his wife and was diagnosed with Stage Five Renal Failure. Music took a back seat to life for the next decade. When he was just months away from turning 40 years old, Moger received a second chance at life, receiving a kidney transplant. Shortly after, his son was born. Moger began playing nursery rhymes on the guitar and found his love of music again, making new songs. With encouragement from his wife, he is back to playing music - covers and originals. What kinds of songs he plays varies greatly. “I don’t know about you but with music, sometimes a song just hits you - like that is my song. Like every time you hear it on the radio you’re going to crank it up. It can be all over the place - country, rock, pop, even some heavier stuff,” he says. Tony Moger is an artist that people of all ages can enjoy.
The Murray County Historical Society will serve free refreshments before the concerts and a free will donation basket will be passed to help support ongoing updates to the Dinehart House. The concerts are family friendly, so bring the kids, a blanket or some lawn chairs, and enjoy a nice night under the big maple trees on the lawn.
This activity is funded in part with a grant from the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council made possible by an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the State's general fund.
