Luc Sanou is a dancer, performer, and choreographer from Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. A graduate of the International Dance School Irène Tassembedo (EDIT) in Ouagadougou, he grew up surrounded by music and performance, inspired from an early age by his father, a musician. Between 2010 and 2014, he completed his professional dance training at EDIT and began his career as a performer.
Over the years, he has refined his artistic practice through numerous workshops and collaborations. In 2015, he took part in the FIDO – International Dance Festival of Ouagadougou under the direction of Irène Tassembedo, training with Siard (Cie Preljocaj), Wandjiru Kamuyu (Kenya), and Youtci Erdos (CDC Picardie). He continued his training at CDC Picardie in France with choreographers James Carles and Lucinda Silda (USA), and at École des Sables, where he explored traditional and contemporary African dance under the guidance of Serge Aimé Coulibaly (Burkina Faso) and Saki Bertran (Côte d’Ivoire).
Luc has performed and collaborated in several international creations and festivals, including Pile Face by Adonis Nébié (FIDO 2015), La Boussole by Aly Karembe (Mali), the Festival du Film Francophone d’Angoulême (France), and the Festival “C’est comme ça” in Picardie (France). He has also worked with renowned choreographers such as Mickaël Phelippeau on the project Ben et Luc, presented at the Festival d’Avignon and in various venues across Europe.
As a teacher at EDIT, Luc Sanou teaches traditional, Afro-contemporary, and modern dance, as well as creative movement and introductory hip-hop for children. In 2021, he participated in the Biennale de la Danse de Marrakech with Ambidextre by Ladji Koné. He is the author of two major choreographic works: Mon Homonyme, a duet with a musician created in 2018, and Danté, premiered in 2021.
