Public Lecture on the Coronado Expedition

This talk is free and open to all. No advance registration. Seating limited to the capacity of the large meeting room in the Sierra Vista Public Library.

Dr. Deni Seymour will talk about her work over the last few years during which she and her team have discovered sites left behind by the Coronado Expedition in our area. These finds of a Spanish village, camps, and travel routes have revolutionized our understanding of the expedition - where they went, how they were organized, and what they did. Equally important are the insights gained into the Native Nations that lived in the area who interacted with the Spanish. Members of the modern Sobaipuri O'odham Nation, descendants of the primary culture Coronado met, are active participants in this project and they will share what this new information means to them as part of the lecture.
