Bio-
Freya Milliken is an award-winning singer-songwriter whose music resonates with warmth, authenticity and introspection. Known for her rich, velvety voice and dynamic blend of indie-folk and rock influences, Freya's music will take you through an evocative journey of self-discovery and reflection, with a gentle yet powerful lure into an intimate and heartfelt realm.
Her debut EP, Wholeheartedly, explores queer longing, love, and joy, while embracing the various stages of navigating relationships and identity. To love or live wholeheartedly is to do so without reservation, to be intrepid leaders of our own lives. With raw honesty, the EP captures both the beauty and the challenges of loving and being loved. The title track won Song of the Year at the 2023 Music New Brunswick Awards, and the EP was nominated for Folk/Roots Recording of the Year at the 2024 Music Nova Scotia Awards. Her work has also earned recognition through commissions for the Symphony Nova Scotia Lullaby Songs Project and United Way Halifax’s Songs of the City.
Past performance highlights include showcases at major festivals in the maritimes such as the ECMAs, Nova Scotia Music Week, Deep Roots, Paddlefest and the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, in addition to a European tour with the Acadia University Singers for the Singing In Flanders Fields Project. Beyond her performing career, Freya is a passionate advocate for music education, all ages music spaces, and accessible community engagement. She is an emerging presence on the East Coast music scene, as well as a warm and generous leader with an ability to connect and inspire that belies her young years.
