Join the Sharon Historical Society, in collaboration with the Sharpsville Historical Society and the Hermitage Historical Society, as we step into the world of Frank Lloyd Wright through a scenic bus trip from Sharon, PA to Buffalo, NY, for a day filled with architectural wonder. This trip will take you to two of Wright’s most celebrated works: the Martin House and Graycliff, each an unforgettable example of his genius.
On the way to Buffalo, you’ll enjoy a comfortable, scenic ride to our first stop: the Martin House. Widely regarded as one of Wright’s masterpieces, the Martin House complex is a stunning example of his Prairie-style architecture. As you walk through its spacious rooms and beautifully designed outdoor spaces, you’ll experience Wright’s innovative use of geometric patterns, open spaces, and harmonious integration with nature. An expert guide will walk you through the history and significance of the house, offering insights into its design and the life of the family that once lived here.
After exploring the Martin House, we’ll continue on to Graycliff, a hidden gem nestled above the shores of Lake Erie. This lakeside estate is a perfect example of Wright’s organic architecture, where the building and landscape blend seamlessly. The sweeping views of the lake and the open, airy rooms of Graycliff create an almost meditative atmosphere, showcasing Wright’s ability to design spaces that feel at one with their surroundings. With another expert-led tour, you’ll learn about the unique history of Graycliff and its place in Wright’s architectural legacy.
Throughout the day, you’ll have ample time to take in the beauty of these sites, snap photos, and immerse yourself in the genius of one of America’s most famous architects. We will stop for meals along the way, though those are not included in the price.
The cost of the trip is $120 per person and includes round-trip transportation from Sharon, entrance fees to both the Martin House and Graycliff, and expert-guided tours at each site. Comfortable shoes are recommended for walking, and don't forget to bring your camera to capture the beauty of these architectural landmarks.
