Join the Sharon Historical Society, in conjunction with the Sharon Beautification Commission, for our Downtown Sharon History Walks during WaterFire Sharon. We will focus on the area along the Shenango River waterfront! Step back in time and explore the rich history of downtown Sharon, Pennsylvania, on a captivating walking tour. Our guided journey takes you through the western edge of the downtown area, where historic buildings, landmarks, and stories from the past come to life. From the bustling days of industrial growth to the architectural gems that still stand today, discover the pivotal moments that shaped Sharon’s development. Learn about the vibrant communities that once thrived here, the influential figures who left their mark, and the fascinating tales that have been passed down through generations. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, our History Walks offer a unique and engaging way to experience the charm and heritage of Sharon.
Stops on this History Walk will include the Protected Home Circle Building (now Gilbert’s Risk Solutions), First National Bank Building, the history of floods and versions of State Street bridge, the old City Hall and fire station, George S. Warren II Park and the “can-opener” sculpture, Quaker Steak & Lube, South Water Avenue School, River Gardens Park (former Bicentennial Park), Daffin’s Candies, urban renewal and the Sharon Tower Plaza project, and more!
The History Walks will be approximately 1.5-2 hours over a 1.5-mile route of flat terrain, sometimes uneven. Rare photographs and interesting stories will be printed in our FREE collectible booklet!
TIME CHANGE: Walks will begin at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm/Noon, and 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 20, 2025 during WaterFire Sharon. These are FREE and OPEN TO ALL!! Donations are appreciated!! The starting point will be announced closer to the date of the event.
