Dan Forrest’s Jubilate Deo brings to life the global aspect of the traditional Psalm 100 text, “O be joyful in the Lord, all ye lands,” by setting it in seven different languages and drawing from a wide spectrum of musical influences. Each movement combines some characteristics of its language-group’s musical culture with the composer’s own musical language. The result is a stunning global celebration of joy, as all the earth sings as one, “omnis terra, jubilate!”
Local musicologist Eric Charnofsky will give a pre-concert presentation about this work, providing insight into the cultural themes of the music and languages in this work. We hope you will arrive early for this talk to enhance your experience of the concert.
Our friends from Global Cleveland will also help us make this a truly global celebration. Look for them greeting you before the concert and take the opportunity to learn more about their important mission in our multicultural community. WRC will be sharing a percentage of concert donations with them.
Under the direction of David Gilson, and with a chamber orchestra and soloists, the 100+ members of the chorale look forward to sharing the joy of this music with you.
