Happy Autumn, everybody! With the start of a new season, the Seward Community Library is bringing back our Saturday Matinee Screenings! Come to the library every Saturday Afternoon at 2pm to watch a film celebrating the season and culture of this wonderful time of year!
This October we have a great selection of films, so let's dive in:
October 4th "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" (PG-13)- In celebration of Banned Book Month we're kicking off our Saturday Screenings with "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" based on the banned book of the same name. The film follows Charlie, a shy freshman who befriends two senior students who teach him about first love and friendship. However, as his friends prepare for college, Charlie must confront his troubled past.
October 11th "In the Heights" (PG-13)- Our second movie, "In the Heights", will be shown in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month. Based on the musical by Quiara Alegría Hudes and Lin-Manuel Miranda, "In the Heights" follows a tight-knit community that dreams--and sings--about a better life and is guaranteed to be a great watch.
October 18th "Life is Beautiful" (PG-13)- In celebration of National Italian-American Heritage Month we will be showing "Life is Beautiful". The story follows a Jewish-Italian waiter, Guido, and his small family. When their happy life is abruptly halted by the Holocaust, Guido does everything in his power to protect his young son from the horrors of their surroundings. "Life is Beautiful" is equal parts drama and comedy and received three Oscars including Best Foreign Language Film. Please note that the movie will be shown in Italian with English subtitles.
October 25th "Coraline" (PG)- Our final showing of the month, "Coraline", comes just in time for Halloween. The film follows the titular character, Coraline, and her discovery of an alternate world that lies behind a secret door in her new home. Coraline rejoices at first, but she soon discovers that her alternate family wants to keep her there...forever. We will also be handing out extra candy for any trick-or-treaters that come to this showing!
Each movie comes with free admission and snacks. Anyone under 13 trying to attend any movie rated PG-13 or higher must be given permission or have a parent or guardian present in order to enter.
