Learn How Gardens Support Habitats and Water Resources
Do you enjoy grdening or appreciate having a beautiful yard? Come join us at Duke Energy's World of Energy located at 7812 Rochester Hwy for an exciting event where you can discover the wonders of how gardens play a vital role in supporting habitats and water resources.
This presentation by Anaston Porter, Water Resources Agent for Clemson Extension, will explore Clemson Extension’s innovative efforts to support sustainable landscaping and water quality protection across South Carolina. Attendees will gain an overview of Clemson Extension’s statewide hybrid programming, with a special focus on the Clemson Master Rain Gardener Program, a comprehensive training that empowers individuals to design and install residential rain gardens.
This Speaker Series will highlight the functionality and benefits of rain gardens, along with native plant suggestions that support pollinators and improve stormwater management. Participants will also learn about the Carolina Yards Certification Program, which encourages environmentally friendly yard practices. Four of the program’s core principles (maintain healthy soil, garden like a local, provide for wildlife, and rain as a resource) will be showcased to illustrate how simple changes at home can make a big impact on local water resources.
To engage and inspire participants, a native plant giveaway will conclude the presentation—offering a chance to bring sustainable beauty to your own backyard!
