Clay Luminaries: Light Up Your Imagination! with Kim Sammartano
Unleash your creativity and shape your own world with clay
Ages: 7-12 | July 24, 2025 | 9am-12pm | Dennis Ott Ceramics Studio
Skill Level: All Are Welcome
In this creative workshop, kids will design and build a set of three ceramic candle holders Inspired by the magic of glowing lanterns. Each piece will turn into a mini luminary that sparkles when lit from within!
What Students Will Learn & Create:
Foundational Techniques: Young artists will learn how to roll slabs, plan and measure out their designs, and shape & assemble their pieces.
Detailed Carving Work: They’ll carefully carve or punch holes in the sides of their pieces, allowing the candlelight to shine through a pattern of their choice.
Design and Glazing: In addition to the carved out holes in each piece, students will have the opportunity to explore surface texture techniques. We will discuss dipped pottery glazes and they will be able to select from a beautiful assortment of colors for their finished works.
Class Highlights:
Inspired Design: Students are encouraged to lean into their imagination, have fun and bring their individual ideas to life.
Structured Learning: Students receive guidance on how clay behaves and how to build sturdy structures.
Materials Included:
Tuition covers all clay, glazes and firings. Due to the nature of the medium, some projects will be fired after class ends and will need to be picked up at a later date. Shipping options are available upon request.
