About the NEST:
The NEST works to rebuild the village, embodying our values of Indigenous self-determination through lived sustainability, growing as intergenerational community, and nurturing arts/cultural lifeways, rooted upon the ancestral homelands we tend and share.
Our work to build the NEST fulfills the need of supporting Indigenous frontline communities and artists. We purchased our lot in 2012 in Pomo territory. The NEST is an artistic hub for solutions and the first sustainably built, Indigenous led center for the arts in California. By curating and publishing art and music each year for over 20 years with SNAG Magazine we have published over 600 Native artists to date in a stunning collection of 12, 64-page issues, and a 300 page anthology. By providing our own media platform we dismantle stereotypes in media, and create new positive narratives written, performed and made by Native people.
Last year we grew our capacity by installing a 30’ Yurt Gathering Space to host community events, ceremony and workshops. This year we have expanded the NEST garden, and have made plans for the new community bath house.
These upgrades are expanding our hosting capacity for artists, youth groups, medicine workers, and culture bearers. Come celebrate our growth and gift of community interdependence.
