MURMURATIONS
a queer-led improvisation workshop exploring collective movement and harmony-singing as a joyful, expressive, & liberatory practice of being in relationship with ourselves and one another.
------
In a 2-hour workshop, we will root in our bodies, tune to the moment, and co-create music none of us could make alone. elias wolf will guide us into the embodiment of songs already pulsing in us and around us. We’ll build layers of rhythms and harmonies, marrying them to movement and exploring decentralized group “flight” through space, like starlings in their interdependent dance of Murmuration. No need to "know what you're doing." Just your voice, your willingness to listen, and the wisdom of the group. No dance or group singing experience necessary, open to anybody with a body.
elias wolf (they/them) is a heart-forward, moon-guided, water-bound singer-composer, teacher, vocal director and arranger, improviser, abolitionist, community-weaver, and spirited world-builder creating music and shared spaces—stewarding what they call “re-humanizing queer song alchemy for the revolution.” A queer white femme boy raised on unceded Kalapuya land, elias centers interdependence, play, closeness, love, and liberation in all of their work. elias has been at the helm of over 15 choirs and vocal groups over the past 22 years, including 5-time national champion high school a cappella group Vocal Rush and powerhouse vocal quintet, HIVE. elias has studied extensively with Rhiannon, master improvisation vocal teacher and longtime collaborator with Bobby McFerrin. They delight in bringing this liberatory vocal improvisation work to new communities around the U.S.
