Johnny and the Moles is a band steeped in the great American musical traditions of jazz, blues, funk, New Orleans second line, and rock n’ roll . With a Tuba and Drums driven rhythm section (provided by co-leaders John Ewing and Nelson Bell), keyboards, sax and guitar (Chava Mirel, Alexis Rosenberg and Park Evans), and three part vocal harmony (John, Chava and Zoe Bermet) - their music has a whimsical vibrancy rooted in groove, immediacy, and uncompromising authenticity. An eclectic band that blends New Orleans vibes with Americana sensibilities - funk, blues, ska, country and doo-wop all find a place in the underground world of the Moles. This show will feature Kate Olson filling in for Alexis.
Fonkey Blues Time Machine is a group headed by guitarist/vocalist Steve Raible and features percussionist/vocalist Tor Dietrichson, bassist/vocalist Rob Moitoza and drummer Tim Miller. Steve Raible and Tor Dietrichson were good friends and schoolmates in Seattle in junior high in the late 1960s and Steve has been collaborating with Rob Moitoza for many years. Drummer Tim Miller is and excellent drummer and percussionist and rounds out the band nicely. The band excels at Blues, Funk and R&B and will delve into a few other styles as time goes on. Expect a real fun treat with these guys who are true veterans of the music scene. Tor Dietrichson is known nationally as a recording artist and from his work with Mickey Hart, Zakir Hussain and many others and Steve’s group Mojo Cannon is a big hit in Seattle and beyond.
Contraband Countryband is a 21st century cosmic honky-tonk band. Beginning as a studio project for leader Jared Nelson's more "singer/songwriterly" material, the band has evolved into a potent live act with a reputation for getting audiences grooving. Playing originals rooted in country and rock tradition, but often with touches from classic hard rock and psychedelia, in addition to a range of classic and obscure covers ranging from Merle, Waylon, and Ely to the Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, and Ornette Coleman, Contraband Countryband present a heady mix of grooves and dynamics intended to straddle the line between barn dances and underground rock clubs.
