Washington State Parks encourages members of the community to participate in the process of developing a new master plan for Blake Island Marine State Park.
State Parks is set to host its first community meeting to discuss the park and learn about the community’s hopes for its future on Sept. 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ballard Branch of the Seattle Public Library.
The meeting will be an opportunity for community members to learn about the park’s history and facilities, understand the planning process, and hear about the results of preliminary site studies and cost estimates for possible development options. It will also provide space for the public to share feedback about their hopes and concerns for the park and suggest ideas they would like the agency to explore.
The meeting will be in person, but a recording of the presentation will be made available on the State Parks website (parks.wa.gov/about/strategic-planning-projects-public-input/projects/blake-island-marine-state-park-master-planning) ahead of the meeting for those who would like to engage virtually. The public can also submit written comment using the online public comment form (parks.wa.gov/public-comment) and complete an online survey (www.research.net/r/YB9N57C).
The meeting is the first in the planning process for a master plan document that will guide future development of the park.
The planning process will be completed in four phases and will involve significant community participation leading up to the final phase:
-Identifying issues and concerns
-Exploring alternative approaches
-Preparing preliminary recommendations
-Preparing final recommendations
