The schedule of events is as follows:
Seattle University
2:00 PM: Dissertation Defense (in-person and Zoom)

DEFENSE DETAILS
My dissertation defense will begin at 2 p.m. and lasts approximately 75 minutes. The modality for my defense is HYBRID, and family & friends can either join in-person or over Zoom.
The dissertation defense is an oral defense of my research study for my Doctorate of Education. I am excited to share my dissertation with you, and for you to know what exactly it is I have been laboring over - with love - the past 16 months. My dissertation title is:
FILIPINX AMERICANS IN U.S. HIGHER EDUCATION: A CRITICAL EXPLORATION OF STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AND SENSE OF BELONGING
CELEBRATION DETAILS
An in-person reception will immediately follow successful defense of my dissertation. Appetizers and beverages will be provided, and guests are welcome to stay through 4:30 p.m.
Q&A FOR IN-PERSON CELEBRATION
When do I need to RSVP by?
If you plan to attend my dissertation defense in-person, I request that you RSVP (at the bottom of this page) by Wednesday, May 21. I need RSVPs mostly to make sure I have enough seating and food for everyone in attendance.
If you will join by Zoom, no RSVP is needed; you can register for the Zoom meeting up until the event begins on June 6.
Where will the dissertation take place?
I am defending at the Seattle University campus, inside the "Jim & Janet Sinegal Center for Science and Innovation". The campus building and room number is "SINE 200", and the building address is:
851 12th Ave
Seattle, WA 98122
What can I expect once I arrive to the dissertation defense?
The defense will take place in "Oberto Commons", located on the 2nd floor of the Sinegal Center for Science and Innovation.
Once you arrive to this building, please either take the stairs or an elevator to the 2nd floor and follow signage to SINE 200 and/or Oberto Commons (they are both the same room). When you arrive to the room, please feel welcome to take a seat where you're most comfortable. The room will be set-up theater-style.
The defense is set to begin at 2 p.m., and so I do request that you arrive before 2 p.m. and factor in commute-time and potential traffic as you make your way to the Capitol Hill/First Hill neighborhood on a Friday afternoon.
Can I bring additional guests to any of the in-person events?
Yes, absolutely! I want my dissertation defense to be a community event. I only ask that you RSVP and indicate how many total guests you are bringing. Again, I want to ensure there is enough seating at the defense and, more importantly, enough food at the reception.
Is there a dress code for the dissertation defense?
Please dress to your comfort and be your authentic selves!
What if I have other questions or Gerald didn't answer it through Q&A?
Please feel welcome to reach out any time (text, call, email, or DM). I'm happy to address any questions or thoughts you have, and I want to make your experience attending my defense as easy as possible.
