Scandia's Softball Legacy: Dominating the Diamond - FREE event

Led by hall-of-famer Wayne Erickson , the team was so strong by the early 1960s that state tournament officials moved Scandia to Class AA, where it competed with larger cities. Scandia was not to be reckoned with. The team proceeded to win Class AA state tournaments in 1967, '68, '69, and '71. Scandia once again took the state title in 1987, moving back to Class A. Today, five Scandia players are in the Minnesota Softball Hall of Fame: Wayne Erickson, Phil Anderson, Jim Lindberg, Doniver Ahlm, and Greg Benson.

Come out for FREE dessert and a history presentation with ball player and hobby historian Dan Lindgren -- a member of the 1987 championship team -- followed by a lively panel discussion with renowned Scandia players from various eras.

How did fast-pitch get started as a sport in the United States? When did it spread across Minnesota? Who was Wayne Erickson, and why is Scandia's ballpark named after him? What are some of the fabled stories from Scandia's Championship Teams?

The panel will include hall-of-famers Lindberg, Ahlm, Benson, and other dominant players from the championship eras -- who will share stories and answer questions. A vintage team uniform in a classic wool style will be on display. Beer and root beer will be available for sale.

Join us for an evening of excitement at the Regional Softball Tournament when Scandia plays the first game of the tournament at 7pm. Enjoy a barbershop quartet, flag-raising ceremony, silly games, delicious bites, a bouncy house for kids, and fun between-inning competitions with prizes!

Meister's Bar & Grill will be selling burgers and beer, and Scandia Heritage Alliance is hosting snow cones, popcorn, candy and snacks.

This is the first game in a regional fast-pitch softball tournament taking place in Scandia.
