Í tilefni af afmæli enska aðalsmannsins Mark Watson stendur Byggðasafn Skagfirðinga fyrir dagskrá í Glaumbæ 18. júlí 🎉
Watson var mikill Íslandsvinur og eigum við honum margt að þakka, þar með talið rausnarleg peningagjöf til viðgerða á gamla torfbænum í Glaumbæ árið 1938 sem átti sinn þátt í að bærinn hefur varðveist. Watson hefur jafnframt verið titlaður bjargvættur íslenska fjárhundsins og er afmælisdagur hans "Dagur íslenska fjárhundsins".
Heiðursgestur dagsins verður Patricia Putman sem hefur tileinkað líf sitt hundarækt og þjálfun og hefur íslenski fjárhundurinn þar skipað stærstan sess. Pat er formaður fræðslunefndar dómara og fulltrúi AKC fyrir samtök íslenska fjárhundsins í Ameríku (ISAA). Pat vann með Mark Watson á 5. áratugnum að bók hans "The Iceland Dog 874–1956". Hún átti auk þess stóran þátt í vali og innflutningi á átta íslenskum hundum til Bandaríkjanna. Pat mun segja nokkur orð um Mark Watson og íslenska fjárhundinn í tilefni dagsins. Í tilefni dagsins er frítt á safnið fyrir eigendur íslenskra fjárhunda í fylgd með hundunum 🐕
Ókeypis aðgangur er fyrir börn yngri en 18 ára og við minnum lögheimilisíbúa Skagafjarðar á ársmiðann, sem gildir í eitt ár frá kaupum hans óháð fjölda heimsókna.
Á kaffihúsi safnsins í Áshúsi er í boði góðgæti fyrir menn og hunda. Við hvetjum fólk til að fá sér "high tea" að hætti breska aðalsins!
Viðburðurinn er haldinn í samstarfi við Sögusetur íslenska fjárhundsins og við hvetjum fólk til að sækja það heim í tilefni dagsins.

To celebrate the birthday of the Englishman Mark Watson, the Skagfjörður Heritage Museum will host an event at Glaumbær on July 18th 🎉
Watson had great interest in Iceland and generously donated money for repairs to the old turf farm at Glaumbær in 1938. The turf farm is preserved today because of Watson's contributions. Watson is also recognized as the savior of the Icelandic Sheepdog. Therefore, his birthday is generally celebrated as "The Icelandic Sheepdog Day".
The guest of honor of the day will be Patricia Putman, who has dedicated her life to dog breeding and training, with the Icelandic Sheepdog holding the most special place in her heart. Pat is Judges Education Chair and AKC Delegate of the Icelandic Sheepdog Association of America (ISAA). Pat worked with Mark Watson during the 1950's while they were coordinating the writing of his book called "The Iceland Dog 874-1956". She was also instrumental in the selection and importation of eight true Iceland Dogs to the United States. Pat will say a few words about Mark Watson and the Icelandic Sheepdog in honor of the occasion. Her talk will be streamed here on Facebook.
In celebration of the day, admission to the museum is free for owners of Icelandic Sheepdogs accompanied by their dogs. 🐕
Children under 18 get free admission, and we remind residents of Skagafjörður about the annual pass, which is valid for one year from the date of purchase, regardless of the number of visits.
At the museum café in Áshús, delicious treats will be available for both people and dogs. We encourage everyone to enjoy a traditional high tea in the style of the British aristocracy!
The event is held in collaboration with the Icelandic Sheepdog History Center, and we encourage everyone to visit it in honor of the occasion.
