Join Glen Sorestad for the Saskatoon launch of his poetry collection First Light, Last Light (Shadowpaw Press), with special guest Dave Margoshes.
This event will be held live in the Travel Alcove and also available as a simultaneous YouTube stream.
First Light, Last Light is the first book in six years by Glen Sorestad. As might be expected from a poet now in his 80s, the work in this volume is a mix of reflections on family, memories of youth and friends, and the not-always-pleasant aging process, all viewed with compassion, wisdom and, often, humour. Sorestad is also a keen observer of the wildlife around him, from the birds who come to the feeder outside his window - damn those bully crows! - to the foxes and other wildlife he and his wife sometimes encounter on their morning walks. First Light, Last Light is a book to read again and again, and treasure.
Glen Sorestad is the author of eighteen books of poetry, many short stories, and is a co-editor of numerous anthologies. He has given over three hundred public readings of his poetry in every province of Canada, in many parts of the United States, and in Europe. Sorestad served as the first Poet Laureate of Saskatchewan from 2001 to 2004, and in 2001 received the Saskatoon Book Award for his poetry book, Leaving Holds Me Here. He was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2003. In 1975, Sorestad and his wife Sonia co-founded the literary publishing house Thistledown Press in Saskatoon.
Dave Margoshes has published twenty books of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. His work has appeared widely in literary magazines and anthologies, in Canada and beyond, and has been nominated for and won numerous awards. In 2022 he was the recipient of the Lieutenant Governor’s Lifetime Achievement Award. His most recent work, A Simple Carpenter, was published in 2024 by Radiant Press. Dave lives on an acreage near Saskatoon.
