Join us for a special curator-led tour of Land, Sea, Sugar, Salt: Terrestrial and Aquatic Contemplations of the Caribbean, guided by Michelle Jacques, Director of Exhibitions and Collections/Chief Curator, and Sally Frater, Senior Curator at Remai Modern.
This in-depth tour offers visitors an opportunity to explore the landmark exhibition through the perspectives of its curators. Jacques and Frater will share insights into key themes—extraction, stewardship, reconstitution, labour, and colonialism—highlighting how these ideas are reflected in the artists’ relationships to land and water across the Caribbean and its diaspora.
The exhibition features work by Carolina Caycedo, Andrea Chung, Giana De Dier, Braxton Garneau, Deborah Jack, Las Nietas de Nonó, Hew Locke, and Kara Springer. Through multidisciplinary approaches—often poetic, material, and rooted in community—these artists engage urgent ecological and political questions.
Admission to this tour is by donation and free for members and youth under 18.
Join us on Thursday, April 24, at 7 PM for the opening celebration of Land, Sea, Sugar, Salt: Terrestrial and Aquatic Contemplations of the Caribbean. Throughout the evening, guests will enjoy music, food service, and remarks from key curators and contributors.
