This workshop is designed to provide practical knowledge on the life history, ecology, and conservation of the Foothill Yellow-legged Frog (FYLF), a species listed as threatened or endangered under state and federal endangered species acts throughout much of its range.
The Friday morning lecture will cover FYLF identification at all life stages, distinguishing features from similar amphibians, range and distribution, habitat needs, behavior, survey techniques, conservation concerns, and relevant regulations. An accompanying field trip at a nearby creek—an active FYLF site—will demonstrate aquatic habitat types and survey techniques. Participants are responsible for their own transportation; carpooling is encouraged. Each attendee will be expected to bring appropriate field equipment (i.e. hiking boots that can get wet, or rubber boots, or other footwear that can allow for access to grasslands, muddy wet creek edges, and bare slopes).
Instructors: Jeff Alvarez and Jeff Wilcox
