Working Together: The Partnership between Navajo Weavers and Early Indian Traders

On the last day of Indian Market, Jackson Clark, the owner of Toh-Atin Gallery in Durango, will give a talk about the unique partnership between certain Indian Traders and the Navajo women who worked with them to develop the regional Navajo rug styles. It’s a story of unique and colorful individuals who came together at a specific point in time to save one of the most enduring and important tribal art forms in the world.

If you ever wondered how Two Grey Hills, Teec Nos Pos, Ganado Red, Crystal, Wide Ruins, and other styles came to be, you will enjoy this talk. These are great, and mostly true, stories about the people who helped to create the regional Navajo weaving.

Examples of weavings from the different periods of Navajo history will be used in the presentation, and a collection of over 100 quality weavings, antique and contemporary, will be available for sale over Indian Market Weekend.
