SFCC catalogue:
“Over his 45-year career, George Rodrigue (1944-2013) painted hundreds of images of women. These include the Cajun legends Jolie Blonde and Evangeline, as well as the mystical Native American, Evergreen Lake. He also painted expressive portraits of his friends, including the great artist and chef, Rosalea Murphy, founder of Santa Fe’s Pink Adobe Restaurant. More than any other human subject, however, Rodrigue painted his wife, Wendy, completing hundreds of paintings and drawings over twenty years. In time, she came to question her role not only within Rodrigue’s personal and artistic legacy, but also with regards to her own story and identity. Join Wendy Rodrigue Magnus for a personal afternoon of art and storytelling, accompanied by original George Rodrigue paintings of Women from her personal collection.”
Best of all, 100% of my SFCC proceeds benefit the George Rodrigue Life & Legacy Foundation’s programming in Santa Fe Public Schools, including a month this fall!
About the George Rodrigue Life & Legacy Foundation:
Wendy Rodrigue established the Life & Legacy Foundation because she believes, as did George Rodrigue, in the importance of active, in person engagement through storytelling and the arts. This interaction nurtures creative thinking, promotes honest dialogue, encourages respect for diverse cultures and opinions, and establishes imagination as the key to it all. Now in its ninth year, Life & Legacy has organized 19 Rodrigue museum exhibitions, delivered some 800 art lectures and tours, filmed the history of 55 Rodrigue paintings, and visited 230 schools in 10 states, impacting nearly 100,000 students.
To register by phone, or for on campus directions, contact the SFCC Continuing Ed office, Room 131; (505)428-1676.
