EVENT DESCRIPTION
A performance and dance party to celebrate the release of ISHI’s début recording project. Original songs from ISHI, opening blessing from Madi Sato, dance from Pear, and house music from DJ Sato, along with handwork from Pueblo artisan Saturn Lopez will make for a complete experience.
BIOGRAPHY
ISHI is an emerging indigenous singer of Japanese Ainu and Taos Pueblo lineages. Her mother, singer Madi Sato, brought ISHI on stage and into recording studios from infancy and her exceptional talent was obvious from the first sung notes. ISHI has performed in diverse settings, notably at the New Mexico State Capitol for Indigenous People’s Day and for numerous events within the MMIW (Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women) movement. Her music is bold and original, both cosmic and tribal, and her voice is precociously mature, ranging from rich earthy tones to shrill etheric calls.
