Meet your facilitators:
Kat
I am a singer-songwriter, certified yoga instructor, & passionate creative. I have facilitated chanting circles and community gatherings for years, and I deeply believe in the power of music to heal, connect, & ignite us.
My chanting journey began whilst living in a yoga ashram in North India, reciting simple mantras. I fell in love with the feeling of the sounds resonating through my body. Despite long days at the ashram and at times feeling stuck & exhausted, I always found that I felt lighter after chanting, more joyful and clear.
After living in India for six months, I travelled back to Australia and met my teacher and mentor Vicki Roussell. Vicki deepened my appreciation of music, and how sound & breath can support us to come into well-being. I have been practicing vocal techniques & embodied movement with Vicki for over 10 years now, participating in many retreats and ceremonies over that time.
It is my hope & intention that I can guide you back into the remembrance that sound is deeply alive and accessible in your being. And that coming together to sing, we can share our hearts and build a nurturing & loving space for community to thrive.
And Georgia
Georgia Shine is a classical cellist gone rogue. Delighting in the cross-pollination of interdisciplinary practice and ceremony, Georgia takes her training and skills into wild places to improvise with all of nature, searching for and responding to aliveness.
Georgia completed her Bachelor of Music Performance with first class honours at the University of Queensland in 2016, and has taught cello to all ages in a variety of settings since she was 15 years old. Georgia is the founder and director of the Cygnet Cello Choir, and has over ten years of experience integrating the Alexander Technique into her performance and cello teaching. As a certified Alexander Technique Teacher, Georgia delights in sharing this process that has deeply enriched and continues to serve her life.
Georgia performs regularly with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the neoclassical Tasmanian folk band, ‘Where Water Meets’, and with singer-songwriters such as Bec Tilley, Kat Lebedev and Noah Rosenbloom. As the musical component of ‘Three Way Weird’ with dancer Risa Ray and actor Jem Nicholas, Georgia brings her interdisciplinary nature into play, weaving her cello and voice through story, dance and sound, following the ‘yes’ into places that are as much a surprise to performer as audience.
As a solo performer, Georgia uses looping and effects with her voice and cello to craft sound worlds for listeners to dwell in. Whether it is a live performance, a yoga or dance class or a gallery, spaces come to life when Georgia plays as audiences are transported into the mystery of the moment, where the real conversation has been waiting all along.
