"Juneteenth has never been a celebration of victory, or an acceptance of the way things are. It's a celebration of progress. It's an affirmation that despite the most painful parts of our history, change is possible." — Barack Obama
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Texas finally learned of their emancipation. We gather to honor this pivotal moment through music and message, celebrating resilience and the ongoing journey toward freedom with Speaker Misa Malone, a powerhouse vocalist, songwriter, and storyteller whose music bridges faith, resilience, and empowerment. As Unity San Francisco's Music Minister, Misa inspires through song and message, reminding us that we are creators of our own reality, capable of choosing love, strength, and transformation.
Our soloist will be Albert Hodge, a member of the final cast of "Beach Blanket Babylon" and recent performer in "A Strange Loop", contributing his powerful voice to our celebration.
