Victoria composer Kristy Farkas’ project 'Songs for Tree' is an ode to our planet's endangered old-growth forests, specifically the last standing old-growth trees on Vancouver Island.
Beginning in the woods behind Beaver Point Hall, Kristy and her collaborators (violinist Meredith Bates and bassist Sam Howard) invite you on an ‘animated soundwalk’ to tune into the sounds, rhythms and textures of the forest and surrounding environment while they play several works from her collection. (Please wear appropriate footwear for walking on a forest path with some ups and downs).
Afterwards we will gather indoors for a rich conversation with Kristy, Meredith, and Sam about 'Songs for Tree', the relationship between nature, music, and why tuning in and connecting with the natural world is so important for our well-being.
*You're invited to stay after the panel discussion and help us celebrate Of Sound Minds' second birthday!
*We'll hear a few words from our Artistic Director, Peter Hatch, describing past achievements and a view into future programming, and enjoy some cake and punch together.
