In this Story Council, we ask: How do I become food for life? What feeds me and what do I feed?

"If a fool would persist in his folly, he would become wise."
William Blake

"A chance experience, a blunder, a challenge or a dream; anything large or small can serve as an opening and prompt the call to awaken. A mistake or an accident, that is after all no accident at all, can shift a person's life towards a destiny that was waiting to be found." Michael Meade, The Genius Myth

As we tip past High Summer, we experience the First Harvest and First Sorrow of Lammas. We travel in the human life cycle from birth to early childhood, through the fiery exuberance and instinct of ‘youth’ of the year: Summer time. We have long left the garden of childhood and ventured into a season of intense focus and mentoring, before we let go and leave our Summer House for good! And so our stories rise up to greet us in these places:

How do we learn best? What is the exchange for the food of knowledge? What is the connection between elders and youth? Can we mentor for gifts? And are there larger patterns or cycles in nature and cosmos that might guide us? In our last story, Coyote Gets Hitched, we saw that children come with natural gifts, in this story, we consider more the conditions for those gifts unfolding.

An old poet, seeds from a sacred tree, and an ancient salmon might carry us along in the river below the river...

Will you join us around the story fire surrounded by trees and birdsong this time on Salt Spring Island or around the virtual story hearth for the unlikely medicine of an old tale?

If you can’t make it, join us:

ONLINE Saturday Sept 21st 10am -12:30 pm

> > > What to Expect < < <

We will gather around the story fire to receive the unlikely eldership of an old fairy tale, Fionn & The Salmon of Knowledge. Together we will offer our unique troubles, longings or quests in exchange for the counsel of an old story. In so doing, we just might taste something of the eternal...

> > > What to Bring < < <

A trouble, longing or quest. A cushion, yoga mat and / or blanket, a journal and writing tool, a snack to share and mug for tea and an open heart.

> > > Haven't Been to a Story Council Before? < < <

This is a way of seeking the counsel of each other's fire-lit faces, and something ancient that has arrived out of the earth 10000 years ago right on time! The wisdom of myth works its magic somehow with the trouble each of us brings to the circle. In this way, outcast parts are slowly welcomed home, we begin to catch the tiniest hint of a new belonging, a way of showing up with our authentic gifts.

“Traditionally, The elders would speak in stories. ‘Story’ also means storehouse and what can be found in stories is what keeps being lost and forgotten in the daily world. Sometimes a little story can open up an uncommon way of seeing a path forward that otherwise would remain hidden to simple observation or common sense.”

Michael Meade, Why the World Doesn’t End

I am excited to announce an online Inner Tracking Cohort.

Renewal of Creative Path (ROCP) & Story Catching
to look back over the events, patterns, dreams and synchronicities of the past year, or further back, in order to better map our ways forward.

This will be my third year offering such a cohort, and my first year weaving the 9 steps of ROCP with the council of the old tales.

Monthly ROCP & Story Catching will be a commitment to all 10 sessions w participation in the Story Councils being a recommended deepening but not a requirement.

> > > About Belinda < < <

I believe the old stories, fairy tales, folklore, and myth hold essential medicine for us if we only court them in just the right ways. Writer, earth artist, nature connection mentor, and story carrier, I have been courting the mythopoetic for the past 4 years. I am thrilled to deepen my commitment to Story Carrying and have been running online and in person story council workshops this year. I have also had some powerful experiences sharing the transformative nature of the old tales at grief rituals, storytelling events, and nature connection retreats these past two years. I also offer workshops in sorting our inner, personal stories, and what is dreaming us! See Renewal of Creative path and Story Catching!

I am deeply indebted to the life work and teachings of Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Robert Bly, Sharon Blackie, Martin Shaw, Danny Deardorff, Michael Meade and many others. My work with stories and grief tending has been modeled by Randy Jones, Malidoma and Sobonfu Somé, Francis Weller, Martin Prechtel and Joanna Macy. I have learned much about the Wild Mind, Deep Nature Connection, and the emergent story among all beings from Jon Young and the 8 Shields, Bill Plotkin of Animus Valley, and my time at Wisdom of the Earth, Firemaker, EarthKin and Thriving Roots. I give thanks as well to the poets, art practices, my ancestors and the council of all beings.

To all these and those I have failed to mention, thank you.

Join us on the undulating back of story magic?

~ to re-member what we know in our bones
~ to receive the council of the old stories
~ to court the shadows
~ to catch the thread of what is dreaming us.
